<p>How can meaningful, fair and effective action be designed, implemented and evaluated? In this course, you will explore the methods, tools and approaches that help transform climate ambition into real-world change across communities, organisations and systems.</p><p>Drawing on qualitative and quantitative perspectives, the course examines how climate action can address social inequalities, justice concerns and the complex societal challenges linked to climate change. You engage critically with a wide range of research approaches and practical tools, exploring how they generate knowledge, support decision-making and contribute to equitable and sustainable futures.<br/><br/>The course unfolds in three stages. First, you establish a foundation in the principles, values, and theories that underpin climate action methodologies, with a focus on participatory and collective approaches. Next, you develop, practice and critically assess a toolkit of methods for understanding and influencing systemic processes, organisational transformation, lived experiences and grassroots change. Finally, you apply your learning by designing a project proposal focused on a climate action initiative of your choice.<br/><br/>You will strengthen your ability to evaluate methods and tools across different contexts and scales, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and reflect on the researcher's role and positionality. You will be equipped to select, justify, and apply appropriate approaches to climate action, contributing to fair and equitable responses to the societal challenges posed by climate change.</p>

Entry requirements

To be admitted to the course, the student must have fulfilled course requirements of at least 37,5 higher education credits in the Master's Programme in Climate Change and Society (LUCAS). A good command of spoken and written English, equivalent to English 6/B (advanced) proficiency in the Swedish secondary system, is required. Equivalent assessments will be made according to national guidelines.
