Would you like to understand how health promotion interventions are evaluated and how analysis is used to make better decisions in public health? This course provides an introduction to methods that will help you assess effects and determine whether interventions are cost-effective.

The course is offered as a freestanding course.

The course is an introduction to how to evaluate health promotion interventions - everything from broad policies relevant to public health to targeted health interventions. You will work with two parts that are linked together during the course: health economic evaluations and statistical impact evaluations.

In the health economics part, you will focus on cost-effectiveness linked to prevention, interventions and treatments that aim to improve or protect the health of individuals or entire populations. You will learn why economic evaluations are carried out, how they are designed and implemented, and how the results are presented and interpreted. You will also work on evaluating existing economic evaluations in the literature and assessing their relevance and methodological rigour.

In the statistical part, you will encounter the four most common quasi-experimental methods for effect evaluation: regression, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity and differences in difference analysis. You will use these methods to replicate the conditions of a randomised experiment, while discussing their advantages and disadvantages and practising evaluating how they are used in current research studies.

The course gives you an international perspective on both applications and analyses.

To be admitted to the course, students must have a minimum of 90 credits. English 6.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
