Kursen behandlar samhälleliga, organisatoriska och individuella perspektiv och erfarenheter av åldrande och omsorg. Ur ett socialt perspektiv problematiseras och begreppsliggörs åldrandets utmaningar och äldres levnadsvillkor som knyter an till de tre övergripande temana 1) äldreomsorg ur ett välfärdsstatligt perspektiv, 2) social utsatthet samt 3) omsorg och omsorgsgivande. Äldres livsvillkor och behov problematiseras utifrån förändrade former för styrning, organisering och lagstiftning liksom social utsatthet så som missbruk, funktionshinder, våld och fattigdom. Omsorgsrelationer och omsorgsgivande problematiseras i relation till bland annat kompetens, intimitet, familj, omsorg i livets slutskede, död och sorg. Äldre, åldrande och omsorg belyses och problematiseras i relation till exempelvis kön, klass, etnicitet och sexualitet.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 90 ECTS within the social sciences education in the following subjects: social work, sociology, Psychology, Peace and conflict studies, pedagogic, Gender Studies and social geography, Political science, Law/legal Science or in other courses that are considered equal to thus above, including an individual essay carrying at least 15 credits or 90 ECTS within nursing including an individual essay carrying at least 15 credits. In addition, English and Swedish are required for basic eligibility for higher education.
