Overview
This course focuses on analyzing AI development and impact from a sociological perspective and in relation to the UN's sustainable development goals (UN SDGs). The realization that all new technology, including AI, entails disruptive potential, as well as manifest and latent functions and dysfunctions, play a crucial role in designing systems integrating AI and society. Putting society-in-the-loop and programming the algorithmic social contract has been described as increasingly important with progress in data science and machine learning. The course will be based on four areas of focus: (a) Current Research on technology and Society (b) AI and democratic values (c) AI, Social Control (d) AI Governance. Each area of focus will consist of both lectures and seminars.

The courses Principles and Techniques for Data Science 7.5 credits, Programming for Data Science 7.5 credits, Databases 7.5 credits, Applied Machine Learning 7.5 credits, Human-Centered Design for AI 7.5 credits and Communication for Data Science 7.5 credits. English 6 or English level 2. Exemption of the requirement in Swedish is granted for those with foreign grades.
