Overview
The course includes independent application and integration of clinical and theoretical knowledge related to all phases of caring, under the mentoring of a professional supervisor. The course emphasizes the ability to identify and prevent illness, promote health and well-being in dialogue with the woman and relatives during pregnancy and after childbirth. It also includes identifying the need for additional support and information where cultural, environmental and psychosocial aspects are considered. Further, pedagogy concerning information and parenting support is studied to both individuals and groups, also including sexuality throughout the lifecycle. The course also covers advice on contraception and family planning, with emphasis on prescribing medications and applying contraception based on individual needs, requirements and recommendations. Also included is the ability to master proper practical hand grips, assessment methods, medical technical management, and to make observations and assessments of normal and abnormal health conditions and to report and propose appropriate measures, health care interventions and treatments based on research based knowledge. Health promotion and illness prevention, identifying risks to health and risk behaviors, and to propose interventions in dialogue with patients of different ages is also discussed in the course. The course also emphasizes managerial, organizational and collaborative capability in the midwife‘s work and documentation is trained in accordance with laws and regulations.
