Asian Studies: Global China

<p>How is China shaping the world, and how is the world shaping China? This course invites you to consider the varied ways in which China is going global, and the broader implications for our current moment and the future. </p><p>Global China helps you understand what China’s unprecedented globalisation means today. From digital innovation and workers’ rights to foreign policy and climate change, you will explore how China is influencing global developments, and how global changes are also shaping China.<br/></p><p>You will see how events inside China are closely connected to what happens internationally, and how China’s presence looks different across regions. Through real-world examples and case studies, you will study topics such as global supply chains, green initiatives, and informal economies. You will also look at the institutions and structures, both in China and abroad, that drive these changes.<br/></p><p>The course also examines the response to China’s rapid and uneven globalisation in different contexts around the world. By the end, you will be able to think critically about China’s global impact, understand different viewpoints and develop your skills in analysing today’s big global challenges, which cannot be understood without taking China into account. This knowledge is valuable for further studies and can also support careers in research, journalism, NGOs, international organisations, and policy work.</p>
