Overview
The course is aimed towards exchange students and provides an introduction to Sweden from the perspectives of history, religion, culture, and political science. The aim of the course is to outline in general terms how Sweden has developed historically, with a focus on basic chronology and important processes, such as for instance demographic changes, relations to other countries, industrialisation, and democratisation. The course covers the role of religion in Swedish society now and in the past, as well as how religion has influenced culture and vice versa. Students are also introduced to the Swedish form of government, including how it is organised and what roles are played in society by municipalities, county councils, regions, the national level, and the EU.
