Overview
Kursen avser att ge en fördjupning inom modern atomfysik. I kursen ingår den kvantmekaniska beskrivningen av atomers nivåstruktur inklusive hyperfinstruktur. Vidare behandlar vi experimentella och numeriska metoder för att bestämma dessa nivåer. En annan del av kursen ger en introduktion till teorin för atom-atom kollisioner och kollisioner mellan atomer och andra partiklar. En central del av kursens innehåll handlar om atomers växelverkan med ljus. Här ingår en fördjupning om urvalsregler, de optiska Bloch-ekvationerna, absorption av ljus, kylning och infångning av atomer. Slutligen innehåller kursen en översikt om utvalda delar av forskning inom modern atomfysik.

Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires knowledge equivalent to passed courses (excluding introductory courses) of 45 credits in mathematics and 60 credits in physics, where the courses Quantum Mechanics, 7.5 credits (FK5020) and Atomic and Molecular Physics, 7.5 credits (FK5023) should be included. Additionally, requires knowledge equivalent to upper secondary school English B/English 6.
