BA Programme in Design

**The Bachelor's Programme in Design at HDK-Valand is a transdisciplinary education, students with different interests in design study together, i.e**. This gives you a broad competence and the opportunity to shape your own path to the design profile you want after the education, e.g. in graphic design, product design, spatial design, pattern design or illustration. ## About the programme With us, conceptual work, process and design rest on an artistic foundation - we promote a critical and exploratory approach to design. An important part of the design work is about breaking ingrained patterns, seeing opportunities in the impossible and creating meaning. We start from the design process where each student must learn the basic principles in its different phases. Through training in problem formulation and work process with more complex tasks for each semester, you will gain in-depth knowledge of different tools, concepts and methods. The teaching is built around projects and collaborations where the practical and theoretical studies are integrated with each other. By designing project-based assignments with varying conditions, combined with each student's own areas of interest, students are given insight into different design areas and opportunities to explore and shape their own profile. Some projects are carried out together with different actors in society, which means that students gain an early understanding of different conditions in a design practice and at the same time practice communicating with partners and clients. An important competence in the design role is communication and how you convey your ideas and work. Therefore, written, oral and visual presentations are important elements of the education. HDK-Valand is part of an international network with a large number of design schools. For those who are interested in further in-depth study in their field, there is the opportunity to apply for exchange studies during one of the programme's semesters. Internships during the programme provide a valuable opportunity to test one's knowledge in design against the reality of professional life with customers, industry-specific conditions, requirements for profitability and collaboration between different professional groups and disciplines. Not infrequently, the internship can also open doors to future employers The programme is sustainability-labelled, which means that issues relating to social, ecological and economic sustainability in relation to the field of design run as a red thread throughout the programme.
