Overview
This course is a continuation of the biochemistry learned in the basic chemistry course. In this biochemistry course you will study how living cells gets energy from the surrounding environment, for example how carbohydrates, lipids and proteins are metabolized and how the photosynthesis works. . The first half of the course provides a physico-chemical picture of the metabolism, its regulation and energy conservation processes. The second half of the course deals with the transfer of information in the cell from a biochemical/structural point of view, how the genetic material is copied and the genes are expressed. Entry requirements
For admission to course, approved result on course KEM011, Basic chemistry 1 (15 credits), KEM022, Basic Chemistry 2A Organic Chemistry (7.5 credits) and KEM023, Basic Chemistry 2B Biochemistry (7.5 credits) or equivalent knowledge, is required. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English level 2 from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
