Biology: Nature Conservation

<p>BIOC05</p><p>The overall aim of the course is that the student should understand the societal impact on Swedish nature, including forestry and agriculture, as well as the need and organisation of nature preservation.</p> <h2>Course content</h2> <p>The function of the County Administrative Board and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Sweden's environmental goals. Threatened biotopes and threatened species in Sweden. The development of the cultural landscape and the development of agriculture during the 20th century. The development of forestry during the 20th century, and the current forestry legislation. Current management of Swedish forests. Environmental certification of forestry. The fauna and the environment. Hunting, hunting legislation and wildlife management. Case studies of conservation actions. Restoration and preservation of biotopes in an international perspective. Physical planning at the municipal level in Sweden. Various plans for land use at the municipality, and the tasks and position of the municipality ecologist. Training in oral and written communication takes place continuously during the course.</p>
