Kursen behandlar sten-, mur-, puts- och träbyggande ur ett arkitektur- och bebyggelsehistoriskt perspektiv från historisk tid fram till idag. Grundläggande materiallära om trä och träets egenskaper och tillväxtsätt (vedanatomi) samt dess nedbrytningsprocesser behandlas tillsammans med materialegenskaper hos sten, tegel, murbruk och puts.
