Kursen utgår från begreppet Business lntelligence (Bl) och de olika verktyg som används för beslutsstöd och ökad konkurrenskraft för olika verksamheter. Kursen fokuserar på den grundläggande förståelsen för hur data genererar kunskap och användning av olika typer av analyser som stöd för beslutsfattande. Business lntelligence, dess struktur, arkitektur och komponenter samt dess koppling till begrepp som systemsyn, algoritmer, maskinlärande och statistik studeras på grundläggande nivå. Kursen tar även upp begrepp som Data Mining, visualisering och Big Data samt relevanta etiska aspekter.
