Central and Eastern European Studies: Bachelor Course

<p>Do you want to understand how researchers build knowledge about history, culture, and society - and to get the tools to do it yourself? In this course, you work with central theories and methods, read research and delve into a topic of your choice that you develop into your own essay.</p><p>In this course, you work with key theories and methods used in both history and cultural studies, with insights from related disciplines. You read academic texts that give you a broad overview as well as studies that focus on concrete questions related to Eastern and Central Europe. Through the literature, you learn about different research traditions and theoretical approaches, and how they are used to analyse historical and cultural contexts. </p><p>During the course, you also carry out an independent project on a topic that you choose together with your supervisor. You present your findings in a thesis of about 30-40 pages, which you defend at a seminar with an appointed opponent. In this way, you develop deeper subject knowledge while gaining experience in academic writing, critical reading, and scholarly discussion.</p>
