Kursen omfattar två moduler. Modul 1: Teori, 6 förutbildningspoäng Modul 2: Laborationer, 1.5 förutbildningspoäng Kursen behandlar organiska ämnesklasser, deras egenskaper, struktur och reaktivitet samt enklare reaktionsmekanismer. I kursen ingår också en fördjupning i reaktioners hastighet och riktning samt kemisk jämvikt. Inom analytisk kemi utnyttjas förståelsen för olika ämnens olika egenskaper när olika analysmetoder belyses, exempelvis kromatografi och spektroskopi. Vidare behandlas biokemi med huvuddragen i cellens energimetabolism, reproduktion och proteinsyntes.
