Kursen ger en introduktion till kyrkans framväxt och utveckling under antiken och medeltiden. Genom ett urval av kyrkofädernas texter ges en inblick i den tidiga kyrkans teologi. I kursen studeras också klosterrörelsens betydelse från 500-talet och framåt, liksom universitetsvärlden under högmedeltiden och dess roll för kritiskt tänkande och filosofiskt präglad teologi. Kursdeltagarna får även tolka grundtexter och sätta in dem i ett historiskt sammanhang.
