Civil Law I

The course gives an introduction to the Swedish legal system and its divisions, including EU law. The specific legal method is introduced and legal interpretation using various legal sources and the basic principles of justice are treated.Constitutional law is introduced and basic freedom and rights are discussed. The course also introduces administrative law, primarily the contents and legal consequences of administrative decisions. The procedures for filing an appeal and the principle of public access to official records and the official secrets legislation are studied. The section on civil law covers civil regulations, primarily regarding private law and the law of property. This includes common contract law, commercial law, laws for real property, and corporate law. In addition, the course covers labour law, credit law, insolvency law, economic aspects of family law and indemnity law. Procedural law, criminal law, and taxation law are particularly emphasised. In taxation law the focus is on the role of taxation in Swedish society, including a detailed account of income taxation. The basic principles related to procedural and criminal law in the branches of law are treated, along with examples of crime and types of crime and their sanctions.
