Cognitive semiotics: Meaning, Mind and Communication

<p>Cognitive semiotics is a synthesis of semiotics and cognitive science, giving new insights into human and animal meaning-making and consciousness, bridging gaps between sciences and humanities. The course will introduce you to this exciting discipline and show you how to use it in your own research.</p><p>The course will make you familiar with key topics and methods in cognitive semiotics, such as the conceptual-empirical loop, and how to triangulate between first-person, second-person and third-person methods. Through reading and discussing both theoretical and empirical oriented texts, you will gain an understanding of a number of central theoretical concepts like intentionality, semiosis, iconicity, signs and signals, semiotic systems, polysemiosis, multimodality. Further, the course will show you how to conduct cognitive semiotic research yourself.</p>
