Communication and cultural diversity

The concept of communication in intercultural studies encompasses the processes of human interaction that lead to group formation and the creation of collective identities. This perspective differs from more linear interpretation models, where communication is equated with information and the groups within or between which the information is shared are predetermined. The course addresses intercultural perspectives on disinformation, conspiracy theories, and the politically organised questioning of officially accepted truths. It focuses both on the social contexts in which such questioning is commonly found and on what it generates in terms of cultural and political content. The course provides an understanding of the role of communication in the emergence of cultural differences and the political administration of cultural diversity. Students participate in mandatory discussions and present individual projects in a seminar.
