Overview
The course introduces comparative sociology by asking what makes Sweden – or any other country – special, and how such questions can be addressed through systematic comparison. You engage with classic works analysing differences between societies in areas such as economic development, political systems, inequality and exclusion. Through key contributions in historical comparative sociology, you learn how comparative analysis can illuminate contemporary social issues, from environmental policy and welfare states to globalization, colonialism and broader social change.

Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) within the social sciences including at least 30 credits in sociology. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. This requirement can be met either by achieving the required score on an internationally recognised test, or by previous upper secondary or university studies in some countries.
