Overview
Varför uppstår brottslighet? Det är nödvändigt att förstå för att utveckla strategier som kan förebygga brott. Idag finns därför en stor efterfrågan på kompetens inom kriminologi, utifrån både individens och samhällets perspektiv. En kriminolog kan arbeta som till exempel utredare, forskare, rådgivare eller analytiker på områden där olika professioner förväntas samverka, exempelvis runt frågor som rör kriminalitet, missbruk och psykisk ohälsa. Arbetsplatser där en kriminolog kan vara verksam är till exempel Polisen, Brottsförebyggande rådet, Ungdomsstyrelsen, Kriminalvården och socialtjänsten. Det finns även möjligheter att arbeta som forskare och lärare vid universitet och högskolor.
