Design and Production of Biomolecules

<p>This course gives deep knowledge in directed mutagenesis and recombinant DNA technology, production of proteins in various systems as well as the structure and function of proteins. The course can be divided in two parts, one practical and one theoretical. The practical part gives understanding of methods for production, separation, purification and characterization of proteins, mainly through laboratory exercises but also through lectures and practical exercises covering the theory behind applied methods, like protein design and production, electrophoresis, chromatography, spectroscopy and enzyme kinetics. The theoretical part of the course gives insight into the involvement of proteins in membrane transport, signal transduction, sensing and how proteins act as molecular motors. Deeper understanding of the path from protein design to characterisation is achieved via an obligatory literature study.</p>
