Digital Media

Digital media is a central part of Media Technology as it includes any type of media produced, viewed, distributed, modified and stored electronically. In this course, an introduction to the digital media field will be given. The teaching is mainly based on a production perspective with students doing practical work. A basic understanding of the main softwares for media production is given. After the course, students will be able to handle the production of image, sound, and text in a multimedia context. In addition, the course includes aspects of digital distribution, technical construction of image and sound, communicative aspects and copyright issues. The course provides knowledge and skills that are a good foundation for further studies in Media Technology. Students will acquire theoretical knowledge about digital media content such as bitmap and vector graphic images, sound design and design. In term of practical work, this course covers the basics of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Audition. Students will also be given the basics of photography. Part of the course will also cover how to handle teamwork and working for a real customer for the production of digital media content in a practical way.
