Kursen omfattar grunderna i dokumentärproduktion och dokumentärfilmens historia. Särskilt betonas aspekten av berättarperspektiv och att arbeta med omfångsrikt material. Etiska frågeställningar inom dokumentärfilmsproduktion diskuteras utifrån såväl formrelaterade som innehållsliga aspekter. Kursens första modul, Dokumentär teori och metod, omfattar de teoretiska grunderna för dokumentärt filmberättande, där bland annat metoden etnografisk fältstudie studeras och tillämpas. Detta utgör en utgångspunkt för en filmövning i kusens andra modul, Dokumentärfilmsproduktion. Där genomförs korta filmporträtt av autentiska personer, arbetsplatser eller offentliga miljöer.
