This course gives you the tools to explore how financial systems evolve—and why they sometimes fail.</p><p>In Financial Systems: Development and Crises, you explore how financial systems have developed over time—and how they’ve shaped, and been shaped by, economic growth and political decisions. You begin with medieval monetary arrangements and follow the evolution of finance up to the present day.</p><p>The course focuses on three key questions:</p><ul><li>What makes financial systems work—and how do they support economic growth?</li><li>Why do financial crises happen—and what are their consequences?</li><li>How can we build more stable systems without losing the benefits of financial innovation?</li></ul><p>You study major financial revolutions and crises from the 18th century to today, and learn to identify the conditions under which crises are more likely to occur. You also evaluate how governments respond to crises—and what works.</p><p>This course is for you if you want to understand the deeper forces behind financial instability. It suits students interested in economic history, finance, or global affairs. No prior university studies are required.<br/></p>
