<p>Discover how the global economy has evolved over the past millennium. This course gives you the tools to understand long-term growth, global trade, and the forces that shaped today’s economic landscape.</p><p>This course explores the long-term development of the global economy, from the year 1000 to the present. You’ll examine how different regions have grown, converged, or diverged economically - and why.</p><p>Through historical and theoretical perspectives, you’ll learn to analyse global growth trends and understand the role of trade, migration, capital flows, and technological change. You’ll also study how these forces have influenced wages, land prices and capital costs over time.</p><p>Key topics include the rise of the West, the industrial revolutions, the global division of labor between North and South, the Great Depression and the recent financial crisis.</p><p>Whether you're curious about global history or interested in understanding today’s economic challenges, this course offers a solid foundation in the dynamics of long-term growth.<br/></p>

Entry requirements

At least 60 credit points in either economic history, economics, history, economic and social geography, sociology or the equivalent knowledge. (Students accepted for the following master’s programmes are qualified for this course: EAETU Economic Growth, Population, and Development, EAEUT Economic Growth and Development, EAISD Innovation and Spatial Dynamics, and EAGCH International Economics with a Focus on China)
