Overview
<p>In this course, you explore how companies compete, cooperate and innovate. You examine market structures, monopoly and oligopoly behaviour, and the impact of business strategies on competition and consumers. One important aspect is how competition is promoted through laws and policies.</p><p>You get insight into how firms operate and interact in different market environments. You explore what shapes market structures and how monopolies and oligopolies set prices, quantities, differentiate products and respond to competitors. </p><p>You address real-world challenges such as cartels, barriers to entry, and mergers, as well as the role of contracts, pricing agreements and vertical arrangements between companies. One part focuses on innovation, research and development, and how these activities are influenced by market conditions. </p><p>By studying concrete cases and economic reasoning, you learn to identify relevant markets, assess the effects of business strategies and understand the economic forces behind competitive behaviour. In connection to this, you also consider the economic rationale for competition policies including recent cases of cartels and misuse of a dominant position. </p><p>This course equips you with analytical skills to interpret market outcomes and prepares you for advanced studies in economics or related fields.</p>

Entry requirements
General and at least 20 ECTS basic economics, of which at least 7.5 ECTS in basic microeconomics. Knowledge of mathematics corresponding to 'Mathematical Methods for Economics' is strongly recommended.
