Economics: Intermediate Course

<p>Understanding and being able to analyse economic actions and decisions, how they affect the economy and how economic conditions influence our society are valuable skills. Do you want to take the next step in building your competence in these areas and deepen your knowledge of economics?</p><p>In this course, you will deepen your knowledge of some of the areas covered in the introductory course. You will gain a greater understanding of how the economy works and of the economic driving forces in society. You will develop your ability to analyse, on a more advanced level, what happens in the economy and why. In other words, you will take important steps towards acquiring broad and in‑depth competence in economics.</p><p>The course provides you with microeconomic and methodological skills that you will use when you later choose courses within the specialisations that interest you most. People’s choices and decisions form the basis of everything that happens in the economy. You will gain a deeper understanding and more advanced tools to analyse these choices. You will learn mathematical techniques and skills that are useful in economic analysis. You will also acquire knowledge and skills in econometrics (statistical analysis of economic data) to analyse the economy using empirical methods.</p><p>You choose the final module freely according to your areas of interest. The options are Fixed‑Income Securitie, Macroeconomic Analysis, in the autumn Public Economics and Health Economics, and in the spring Development Economics.</p><p>Note that if you want to specialise in economics, you can either choose this intermediate course of 30 credits or combine four economics courses of 7.5 credits each.</p>
