Kursen behandlar grundläggande lik- och växelströmsteori, trefassystemets uppbyggnad samt aktiv, reaktiv och skenbar effekt vid symmetriska belastning. Den behandlar transformatorers och asynkronmotorns uppbyggnad, funktion och egenskaper. Kursen tar även upp, elinstallation, elanläggningar samt elströmmens risker och elsäkerhetsfrågor. Kursen omfattar en teoridel om 4.5 hp (Theoretical part, 4.5 ECTS) och en laborationsdel om 3 hp (Laboratory part, 3 ECTS).
