Kursens innehåll fokuserar på etiologi, symtomatologi, diagnos och behandling vid akutmedicinska sjukdomstillstånd eller trauma. Kursen behandlar svikt i vitala funktioner utifrån chock och multipel organsvikt, medicinska och kirurgiska kärlsjukdomar, hjärtarytmier och arytmibehandling, lungmedicin, akut njursvikt, akutmedicinska buksjukdomar, akuta rygg- och extremitetsskador, skalltrauma och stroke. Andra områden som behandlas är smärtfysiologi, behandling av akut smärta, rubbningar i vätskebalans och syra-bas samt endokrina och metabola rubbningar. Specifik farmakologi och medicinsketiska frågeställningar behandlas utifrån varje sjukdomstillstånd.
