I skriftliga och talade genrer undersöker studenter på denna kurs engelskans användning på olika nivåer (t.ex. mikro och makro, teoretiskt och praktiskt) samtidigt som de beaktar effekterna av de språkval som de ställs inför i olika professionella sammanhang. Genom att överväga faktorer som tydlighet, noggrannhet och artighet utvecklar studenter verktyg för att kommunicera effektivt på engelska inom en rad genrer (t.ex. affärsbrev, sociala medier och arbetsplatsinteraktioner). Kursen ger även grundläggande kunskap om sociolingvistiska teorier och engelskans roll som maktspråk i en global kontext.
