English: Level 2 (46-60)

<p>When you have finished English: continuation course (31-45), you are eligible for ENGH14 (English 46-60 credits). In this course you will learn more about English linguistics and literature, but you will also improve your English proficiency, both orally and in writing. The same goes for your English vocabulary.</p><p>The course comprises 15 hp, making it a half-time course, but the course progression involves parallel courses during the last three quarters of the semester: from week six of the semester to the end of the semester. In practice, you therefore study at two-third speed once the course has started.  </p> <h2>The contents of the course (English 46-60, ENGH14)</h2> <p>This course is a very interesting mix of English proficiency, literature and linguistics. Just like your previous English courses, this course consists of a number of modules that run partly in parallel:</p> <ul> <li>Linguistic Analysis (7.5 credits)</li> <li>Literary Analysis  (7.5 credits)</li> </ul> <p><em>Linguistic Analysis</em> is a module where you get introduced to four important areas of English linguistics, typically morphology, syntax, semantics, and   language history. This module is both theoretical and practical in nature. You learn about the therory behind  a certain type of analysis, and you get to try out this type of analysis on English senetences, phrases or words. You also learn the basics of writing academic essays on  linguistic topics.This module is examined through a number of papers or other types of written examination.</p> <p><em>Literary Analyis</em> is a module in which you get further training within the field of academic writing, but it is also a module where you learn more about literary analysis. You will produce a literary paper in which you make use of the discussions in class and where you analyse a text using the methods of analysis you have been introduced to in this course.</p> <h2>After the course (English 46-60, ENGH14)</h2> <p>This course makes you eligible for English: Level 3, which is the BA course you need in order to get a BA (Bachelor's degree) in English. Having 60 credits of English, in combination with other relevant university courses, also makes you considerably more competitive on the job market, for instance if you would like to work abroad or in companies or organisations with international profiles. </p>
