English: Lexical Semantics

<p><strong>Description</strong></p> <p>This course is obligatory for students in the master's programme in languages and linguistics specialising in English. It can also be an elective course for other students within the same programme.</p> <p>Students who have finished the BA course in English (ENGK01) can also take this course as a fee-standing course.</p> <p>The course can be an elective course within ENGX64 (English: Linguistic specialisation (91-120 credits)).</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>The contents of the course</strong></p> <p>The course provides an overview of the major traditions of lexical semantic research, including relevant aspects of insights into lexicography. The main focus in the course will be on the theoretical and methodological relationship between the various lexical semantic approaches, as well as on how these approaches are related and what the main differences are. Students’ own research work can also cover aspects of lexical semantics in the context of applied linguistics (for example, computational linguistics, language acquisition and learning).</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>After the course</strong></p> <p>After taking this course, you will have a good understanding of what lexical semantics is and how the field has developed.  You will also know what practical aspects lexical semantic research can have.</p>
