Overview
<p>The course addresses and problematises the EU's environmental and energy policy. Among other things, we analyze the EU's legal foundation, the policy process, and the EU's commitment to sustainable development, economic growth and integration of markets in relation to environmental problems. All in all, this constitutes a tension within the multi-level system of the EU. This provides the baseline for thematic elaborations on different environmental and energy problems and future challenges for the EU. The thematic elaborations are structured so that they analyze (1) the role of various actors, institutions and interests in the policy process; (2) implementation issues, including the relation between the EU and member states; and (3) the EU as a global actor, focusing e.g. on the possible conflicts between EU’s policy promotion internationally and the political practices of EU internally as well as in third countries.</p>

Entry requirements
The requirement for admission to the course is a Bachelors degree with a minimum of 90 higher education credits in a social science discipline or a humanities discipline. Students at the Law programme are also eligible to apply to the course, after three years (180 higher education credits, equivalent of a bachelor degree). Priority will be given to applicants with 60 higher education credits in European Studies. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
