Overview
Kursen syftar till att ge en översiktlig kunskap om och förståelse för klädmodets utseende och växlingar över tid i de antika samhällena. Vidare ger kursen en orientering om olika textiliers användningsområden i de antika grekisk-romerska kulturerna. Textilier har en lång tillverkningstradition och textila produkter var ett centralt inslag i de antika medelhavskulturerna redan under förhistorisk tid. I kursen ligger fokus på historisk tid i det antika grekiska respektive romerska kulturområdena och i första hand på klädmodets variationer i dessa samhällen under perioden cirka 600 f.Kr. till omkring 300 e.Kr. Klädseln var central i syfte att visuellt kommunicera en individs status, ålder, kön samt sociala och ekonomiska status. I kursen behandlas aspekter av såväl produktion som användning av kläder men även andra textila produkter.
