Overview
Kursen behandlar feodalism som historisk företeelse och som teoretiskt begrepp. Olika definitioner och användningsområden av feodalism inom forskningen diskuteras. I kursen behandlas främst det medeltida Europa och hur väsentliga delar av dess samhällsstruktur har uppfattats i modern forskning, främst frågan om hur politisk makt och hur kontroll över bönder har utövats. I kursen uppmärksammas formerna för samhällelig organisation, såsom den medeltida staten och andra sammanslutningsformer. Bönders beroendeförhållande behandlas. Möjligheterna till jämförelser inom det medeltida Europa samt med andra kulturer behandlas även.
