Overview
Kursen behandlar det samtida fenomen där religionslika rörelser vuxit fram ur populärkultur och fiktiva berättelser. Exempel på sådana “fiktiva“, “skapade“ eller “hyper-reella“ religioner är The Temple of the Jedi Orden, The Elven Path, Otherkin, och Bronies. Grupperna och praktikerna studeras ur såväl sociologiska som psykologiska perspektiv. Kursen behandlar också gränsen mellan dessa rörelser och parodiska religioner (t.ex. ”Pastafari”) liksom fankultur som samlar entusiaster inom specifika populärkulturella fenomen (t.ex. Potterheads). Genom jämförelser med mer traditionell religiositet diskuteras attraktionskraften hos fiktionsbaserade religioner.
