Kursen syftar till att ge inblick i olika tanketraditioner kring datorspel och simulering som kulturella, sociala och kognitiva företeelser. Detta görs genom att spelmediet behandlas utifrån olika tematiska aspekter. Inom varje tema beskrivs teoretiska antaganden om lärande, representation och kommunikation. Varje tema belyser också implikationer av dessa antaganden för design av spel och simuleringar och hur de kan användas i utbildningssyfte.
