Gender, Citizenship and Migration

<p>The course gives you new perspectives on migration, citizenship and belonging by focusing on gender and ethnicity. Using theory and current examples, we examine how people are included or excluded in different societies.</p><p>The course explores how gender and racialisation influence people’s experiences of migration and citizenship. You will learn how social, political, economic, and cultural factors shape who is seen as a citizen - and who is not. The course introduces key feminist and postcolonial theories and helps you understand how ideas about sexuality and reproduction also play a role in shaping belonging. <br/><br/>You will explore topics such as: </p><ul><li>gendered and racialised experiences of migration </li><li>the meanings and limits of citizenship </li><li>feminist and postcolonial theories of belonging </li><li>sexuality and reproduction in relation to citizenship </li><li>case studies from around the world </li></ul><p>The course explores the core themes - migration, citizenship, and gender - in relation to diverse geographical and cultural contexts and particularly, to Sweden. At the same time, the students are encouraged to consider those themes in relation to their own, different cultural backgrounds. In that sense, the course offers a unique environment that combines theory- and practice-oriented, experiential learning.</p>
