Overview
<p>In this course, you will explore theoretical and practical concepts of Web GIS (Internet GIS). From theoretical perspective you study techniques for publishing, visualizing and accessing maps on the internet. From a practical perspective you will learn to develop Web GIS/Web mapping applications including static and interactive web mapping systems, and work with some well known open source software and libraries for developing a Web GIS.</p><p>The aim of this course is to study the use of GIS in a client-server environment, where communication takes place through the Internet. Part of the course deals with computer screen cartography.</p> <p>The lectures deal with the most important techniques in web GIS. The major part of the exercises concerns the creation of web GIS services using standard software as well as markup language coding and script programming. Part of the course deal with rules for cartographic visualization on computer screens.</p> <p> </p>

Entry to the course requires English 6/B and at least 90 credits in natural sciences or technology of which at least 15 credits should be in geographic information science equivalent NGEA11 Geographical Information Systems - Basic Course, 15 credits or the equivalent knowledge.
