Overview
<p>GIS is widely used today in environmental management, research and planning. In this course, you will learn to identify relevant GIS applications for environmental science questions and to work systematically with geographic data using ArcGIS software. Key concepts such as map projections, coordinate systems, raster and vector data, databases and visualisation are introduced and placed in context.</p><h3>GIS as a tool for environmental analysis</h3><p>The course combines theory with hands-on exercises in the collection, management and analysis of geographical data. You will work with spatial analysis as well as satellite image analysis, with a focus on land cover and vegetation. The course concludes with an independent project in which GIS is used to analyse an environmental issue and present the results.</p><h3>For students and professionals in environmental science</h3><p>The course is aimed at students and professionals in environmental science, environmental assessment, natural resource management or related fields who wish to strengthen their methodological skills in GIS.</p><p> </p>

Scientific Theories and Methods in Environmental Science 15 credits or equivalent. Environmental Assessment, Management, and Planning 15 credits or equivalent. Biogeochemistry and Environmental Analysis 15 credits or equivalent. At least 15 credits must consist of quantitative methods or statistics. English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 or Engelska nivå 2). Exemption from Swedish
