GIS: GIS and Biodiversity

<p>The course provides an introduction to the use of GIS to analyze biodiversity. The course highlights biodiversity, genetic diversity, and species diversity. You will also learn which indices are used to describe species diversity, how different landscape types are designed and how ecosystems, climate and global vegetation patterns work and what factors influence these. The course is online and in English.</p><p>The aim of the course is to give the student knowledge about biodiversity aspects in society as well as the methodology used to survey, preserve and create favourable conditions for biodiversity in various ecosystems on local, regional and global scale using GIS. Lectures are given on the major theories and the principal methodologies used within the biodiversity field and the area of GIS. Practical exercises where the most common methods to estimate biodiversity using existing data and GIS are included.</p> <p>Course design</p> <p>The course is distributed online and is given via the Internet. It is flexibly designed, which enables you as a student to complete the course at full or half speed.<br /> Examination takes place through a written home exam at the end of the course in combination with approval of assignments and independent in-depth assignments during the course.</p>
