De tre synoptiska evangelierna är våra viktigaste källor för kunskap om Jesus och hans verksamhet. Johannesevangeliet representerar en utpräglat teologisk tolkning och har haft stor betydelse för den kristna kyrkans teologiska utveckling. Paulus brev är Nya testamentets äldsta texter och ger inblick i den tidigkristna rörelsens framväxt. Denna kurs fördjupar kunskapen om tidiga Jesustolkningar, undersöker den synoptiska problematiken, ger inblickar i den johanninska rörelsens historia och teologi, samt granskar Paulus och de paulinska församlingarnas sammanhang och tankevärld. Tonvikt läggs vid texternas sociala sammanhang och litterära utformning, samt deras olika teologiska tendenser. Frågor om den historiske Jesus uppmärksammas särskilt.
