Kursen behandlar Göteborgs ekonomiska och sociala historia och är uppdelad i två delkurser. Den första delkursen ger en fördjupad kunskap kring de källmaterial, arkiv och minnesinstitutioner som forskaren kan använda. Delkursen ger också en orientering kring lämpliga teorier och metoder vid urbanhistorisk forskning. Den andra delkursen innebär en praktisk tillämpning av kunskaperna från den första delkursen genom författande av en kortare vetenskaplig uppsats. Arbetet skall fokusera på staden Göteborg (med dess omland) utifrån en ekonomisk-historisk frågeställning
