Under kursen behandlas teorier för hälsofrämjande arbete som dessa framläggs i Ottawa Charter och senare dokument. Kursen omfattar också det salutogena perspektivet inom hälsofrämjande arbete samt empowerment och brukardeltagande. Vidare inbegriper kursen intersektoriellt samarbete och tar upp etiska frågor samt begreppet equity relaterat till förebyggande och hälsofrämjande arbete.
