<p>This course introduces you to critical urban geography. You explore how cities, places, and built environments are shaped and contested through history and contemporary debates, and how theory helps us understand urban challenges and conflicts.</p><p>This course provides an advanced introduction to critical urban theory and urban geography. You study the connections between space, place, built environments, life in cities, and society. Through selected readings, seminars, and discussions, you learn key concepts in critical urban theory and how they help explain historical and contemporary processes shaping cities.</p><p>The course highlights questions and challenges related to cities that have been the focus of researchers, planners, and social movements. You explore how urbanisation has unfolded over time and how contemporary issues and conflicts are understood within critical urban studies. You also develop your ability to think critically and creatively about cities, urban research, and urban practice.</p><p>All teaching is conducted in English and takes place at the Department of Human Geography, in the historic city of Lund. The department attracts students and teachers from around the world, which creates a diverse and dynamic learning environment.</p>

At least 150 credits, including a Bachelor thesis in Human Geography or the equivalent. English 6/English course B.
