Kursen inleds med studier om tandhygienistens yrkesroll inom tandvården och samhället. Begrepp inom oral hälsa och vetenskaplig metod introduceras samt lagar, förordningar och andra författningar som reglerar tandvården presenteras. Kroppens utveckling och funktion studeras både från ett psykosocialt och biomedicinskt perspektiv.
