Introduction to Comic Making

Comics hold a vital power of expressing everything from high fantasy to deeply autobiographical narratives and should therefore be used to their full potential. The course is designed to appeal to anyone interested in the process of writing, drawing and compiling comics and manga. It will serve as a basic introduction, covering all parts of the comic production pipeline. The final output will be a short comic of 8 or 12 pages in length or the digital equivalent. To follow the course you need to have your own laptop with a drawing tablet. Recommended software is Clip Studio EX or Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. You may also complete comics using traditional methods (using pencils, paper, pen, ink and delete tones). Please note: All drawings are to be handmade by students. AI drawings are not suitable. To be able to make the best out of the course you will need to have some previous experience in character illustration and/or storyboarding. Experience in visual design, such as layout and typography is useful, but not required. **Outline for distance course:** The course uses Uppsala University's learning platform Studium, and the video conference tool Zoom. Teaching consists of lectures via link and chat. Teaching assistance will be offered via email, discussion forums, chats etc. The course has no mandatory physical meetings.
