Geografins idéhistoria och den institutionella uppdelningen i kultur- och naturgeografi behandlas. Vidare introduceras centrala ämnesbegrepp som rum, plats, lokalisering, landskap, region, riktning, avstånd, skala, projektion och kartografisk representation.
