Overview
The course covers the rapidly expanding research field of quantum information and quantum computation. The course is an information theoretic approach to basic laws of quantum physics. The course consists of four parts: • Basic quantum mechanics including quantum entanglement, quantum measurement and quantum decoherence. • Classical information theory and its generalization to quantum information. Quantum channels and quantum cryptography. • Quantum computing: quantum gates and elementary quantum circuits, quantum algorithms, and quantum error correcting codes. • Physical realizations.

Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires knowledge equivalent to passed courses (excluding introductory courses) of 45 credits in mathematics and 60 credits in physics, where the courses Quantum Mechanics, 7.5 credits (FK5020), Atomic and Molecular Physics, 7.5 credits (FK5023) and Mathematics II, Linear Algebra, 7.5 credits (MM5012) should be included. Additionally, requires knowledge equivalent to upper secondary school English B/English 6.
